I’m a sucker for chronographs … there I said it. It kinda feels good to say it out loud. There’s just something about a mechanical chronograph that I find really appealing. To me a chronograph is a precision instrument, it is an object that is purpose built to mean business … or maybe it’s just a cool way for suburban dads like myself to time steaks on the BBQ! Either way I appreciate a well-crafted chronograph and my Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich is just that.

My Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional 42mm (ref. #3573.50.00) is ideal for my on-the-go suburban lifestyle. Whether it’s daydreaming while staring through the exhibition case back at the calibre 1863 movement (Lemania 1873) during a boring teleconference call or deciding what strap option to coordinate with my shoes and briefcase before I rush out the door in the morning, my #sapphiresandwich is up to the task. While the more “traditional” hesalite version certainly does have its warmth and charm, the sapphire variant suits my lifestyle and affords me the assurance to stride through even the most formidable door jambs with all the confidence of a Roman colossus!

The OEM strap and clasp (mine is the previous version offered by Omega with push pins) is simply adequate. While I appreciate the styling of the stainless steel bracelet it lacks a quick micro adjustment clasp like on iterations of the Omega Planet Ocean or the Rolex Submariner. However once my Speedy sheds its cocoon of an OEM bracelet it emerges as a true kaiju, a real strap monster, the likes of which can rival Mothra herself! Not all watches can make this claim and the Speedmaster really does look good on a wide variety of strap styles and colors!

The Speedmaster, in all its many variants, is an iconic watch and for me the Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich is the one that best suits my lifestyle … at least for now! 😉
