Owner Review: Tudor Harrods Black Bay – Little brother to the Kermit

Behold the Tudor Harrods Black Bay – a limited/special edition of the Black Bay exclusive available from Harrods London. A dive watch with the same in-house movement as its other regular production brothers. At this price point, it’s hard to beat with so much going for it – depth rating of 200m, power reserve of 70 hours and an in-house automatic movement!

The differences between the regular production models are cosmetic. It comes with a green bezel, with a hint of green right at the tip of the second hand, and the depth rating is in green font – green being the hallmark of Harrods. In addition, the depth rating features “feet first”, presumably because Harrods is an English brand. Lastly, its case back is engraved with the words “SPECIAL EDITION“, and each piece has its production number engraved on its case back.

Interestingly, each piece comes fitted with a riveted steel bracelet, and also a nato strap (unlike regular production models where Tudor has since done away with providing an extra nato strap if you purchase the steel bracelet option), which is particularly helpful for people who like to switch things around to get a different look.

One complaint about this piece is that it is exclusively available only at Harrods London, which makes it quite difficult for people who are not from the UK to purchase. I understand that they do not entertain emails to put names down on the waiting list, and more importantly, one is required to go down (either personally or via a proxy) to make payment and collect the piece within 7 days of being notified that it is available. Another complaint I’ve heard of with the Tudor Harrods is that the case is a little on the thick side – this is not an issue for me per say, but good to consider if you are thinking of getting this piece (especially if you are not based in the UK).
