Owner Review: Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch

“Flight qualified by NASA for all space missions, the first watch worn on the moon” is inscribed on the back of this chronograph and immediately every watch enthusiast knows what you are talking about. As a very young child my Mother got me out of my little bed to watch the Moon landing on television so it was only fitting that one day I would own an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch (and what a year to buy one). For my 15th Wedding anniversary, my beautiful wife made my dreams come true and purchased the watch for me.

The Omega Speedmaster is a truly great watch to wear and it’s one that gets equal wrist time with my vintage Tudor Submariner. It keeps amazing time running the historically significant 1861 movement and I find myself gazing into the Hesalite crystal when I’m wearing it. For me there are not many gripes to be found with the Speedmaster. Initially changing the bracelet and mixing up the spring bars resulted in a nasty scratch on the underside of one of the lugs but as I’m not planning on selling the Speedmaster it’s not really an issue for me. The black Nato strap provided is very nice and of extremely good quality, the presentation box is gigantic and very well put together.

It’s a hefty watch when being worn with the bracelet and I really like that feeling. Recently I had a link removed and now it sits much better on my wrist. I’ve even heard of some owners getting a Seamaster micro adjust clasp retro fitted but mine is fitting perfectly for now. Maybe a thought for the future.

All the legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch hype aside this is a lovely watch and it’s a sentimental gift that I shall value forever.
