Owner Review: Rado Golden Horse 1957 Limited Edition

Rado Golden Horse 1957

I recently passed by my local Rado dealer, simply just to say hi. They told me they had something to show me. What they showed me was a new arrival that instantly stole my heart. The Rado Golden Horse 1957 with the red fumé dial is a new re-issued limited edition from Rado.

The curved dial with the ombre look of the black blending into the red makes for a rather stunning sunburst. The domed sapphire crystal is particularly appealing. There is the usual Rado anchor at the 12:00 position and twin golden horses at 6:00. At 3:00 is a date encased in a chrome frame. The date wheel has a white background with red digits to compliment the red on the dial. The 36.5mm case, that some may say is a bit small, is very deceiving but true to the original Golden Horse 1957. The thick lugs make the watch look much bigger than it actually is with a 40mm width. The thin leather strap is a vintage style that looks stunning with the watch but I like to switch straps and bracelets to get a whole new look, so I went ahead and purchased the original bead of rice bracelet for the watch. The change is absolutely beautiful making for a vintage and modern look at the same time. The back has three striking seahorses on a screw down case back which does not number the edition but merely states 1 of 1957. A display case back design would have been nice to be able to view the movement inside.

Hidden inside is the ETA C07.111 movement that has a superb 80 hour power reserve. With this power reserve you can wear the watch for a whole week, leave it for the weekend and pick up where you left off the following week. I don’t normally go for watches less than 39mm as I have quite large wrists but this watch made me change my mind. The Rado Golden Horse 1957 has become one of my top favorite watches in my collection. I would highly recommend this for any collection as a classy vintage/modern piece.
