A couple of weeks after Watches and Wonders I found myself in New York City with time to kill. The new METAS Black Bay 41 peaked my interest so I popped into the Tudor Boutique to see if they had any display models to check out.
Unfortunately they did not, but the sales assistant allowed me to check out many popular models and the original Tudor Pelagos grabbed me as soon as I slipped it on my wrist. Since its release the black dial model has been one that I’ve ignored. It looked to dull, the case was too tall, etc..
On wrist, all of my initial thoughts about the Tudor Pelagos went away. The dial had more character than I remembered seeing in online reviews and YouTube videos. The case, while tall, did not feel in any way oversized. About an hour and a glass of champagne later I was the new owner of the Pelagos.
The Tudor Pelagos has integrated well into my day to day life. It lives alongside my Submariner 124060. They are both black dialed dive watches, but they are different enough for me to justify having both. The under the radar nature of the Pelagos is much appreciated when running errands around town or dipping into the neighborhood pool. It won’t blend in as well as the Sub at a nice dinner or as a wedding guest, but it aces all casual situations. It’s the perfect 1-2 punch for my life!
