Owner Review: Squale 30 Atmos 60th Anniversary Edition

Squale 30 Atmos 60th Anniversary Edition

A watch with an old look, or say a vintage piece, can somehow be hugely appealing to me. This is one example –  the Squale 30 Atmos 60th Anniversary Edition (SUB-39). A limited edition of 150 pieces.

At first glance, I was immersed in this matt black surface with yellowish markers on the face. The vintage coloured lume made a big impact on me and I can’t reject it. The dial consists of printed rectanular indexes plus the 12-6-9-12. The date window at 3 is nothing special with only a white rectangle surrounding it. The ‘SHARK’ logo, the brand name plus year of foundation, and the WR resistance (300M) are visibly printed on the dial. Then keep looking outwards to the clearly visible bezel. With the inverted triangle filled with lume, it clearly tells you that this is a Dive Watch.

The case, as well as the dial, resemble a famous dive watch from the past. Do you know what it is? Sure, it is the Aqua Lung from Blancpain produced in the 50s and 60s. Therefore, I think that this is the reinterpretation of that nostalgic watch. By looking at the sides and the dial of the 30 Atmos, it definitely sends this message clearly. Brushed surfaces on the lower part of bezel can be seen. At the top, domed sapphire crystal is attached to protect this beautiful dial. But for me, acrylic crystal would be more preferred. When you move to the opposite side, a crown guard with the brand’s logo can be found. Moving to the back, I think there’s not much more to be said.

The Squale 30 Atmos 60th Anniversary Edition has a total diameter of 40.8mm and lug-to-lug distance of 48.5mm, it feels comfortable putting it on my small wrist. I changed the original strap to my own nato and it looks perfect on it.

Powering this ‘SHARK’ is a Sellita SW200. So high accuracy can be expected.

I love vintage-inspired watches, and antiques. How about you?
