Owner Review: Squale 1521 50 Atmos Bluegasm

This is my Squale 1521, I sell a few here and there, but this isn’t going anywhere. I just want to describe my experience with this watch, but it’s not perfection personified…unlike me 🙂 Firstly, it feels like the perfect size universally at 41mm. Sits up well on the wrist too. I get compliments from people every time I wear the Squale 1521, out in the Mad Max Covid world. Mainly by ladies for some reason? I think it’s the stunning starburst blue dial and polished case that attracts the eye…or maybe it’s just my good looks Haha!

The box set comes with a very nice leather watch roll, made for one watch or maybe two if you remove the booklets. I’m not going to delve too much into Squale’s history but here’s the quick version: Originally owned by the Von Buren family, and now the Maggi family. They are an Italian brand, with headquarters in Milan, but produced in Switzerland. Some versions were issued to the Italian Airforce and the Italian Navy’s Marina Militare, Squale are most famous for supplying 4 O’Clock crown cases, to some larger watch brands like Blancpain, Heuer and Doxa. And other style cases to Sinn and many others. So NOT a microbrand like some think. They have made some stunning cases and watches since the 1940s. Not all of Squale’s watches are awesome, some are quite the ‘Rolex Submariner Homage’ but thankfully they have many designs that have their own individuality.

The shite: It’s a bloody scratch magnet like no other! It’s all polished case will scratch by just breathing heavily on it, and Squale sometimes includes a rubber strap that is just awful, but the 20mm lugs and bluegasm colour, makes it a strap monster, which will happily accept just about any style strap or bracelet. The other thing that not all people like is the ‘Squale’ engraving on the case side opposite to the crown. I however love it, it’s quirky and as my Kentucky comrades say ‘Fuck all Y’all’ I like it 🙂 If anyone reads my other reviews, I’m hard on watches and don’t have love affairs with my watches, they are after all, inanimate objects! I tell the truth, which is something that not all watch brands and readers like too well…deal with it! I’m passionate about watches, some are just pure art! But the truth is the truth people! This Squale just happens to be a winner for me and I have little to no complaints about it. It’s serving me well and it’s well….Art.
