Owner Review: Seiko SBQJ015 – Quartz Watch Packed with Features

The Seiko SBQJ015 is a rarity that deserves some attention. You won’t find much in the Seiko line-up these days that matches the SBQJ015’s impressive specs, or beautiful design. The watch uses a high precision quartz movement (accurate to within 20 seconds per year), model 8F56, and is also a GMT and perpetual calendar.

I think that the overall design of the watch is great, and would work for daily wear. It certainly comes off as a no-nonsense sports watch, but it is clean enough to be worn in an office. The face and hands of the SBQJ015 certainly help it maintain a dressed-up tool watch feel, and the simple lines make the case feel like something from Seiko’s higher-end collections.

One aspect of the Seiko SBQJ015 that may appeal to some, but not others, is its titanium case. The SBQJ015’s case and bracelet are made from diashield-coated titanium, making it as resistant to scratches as steel (if not more!). The 40mm case size is a perfect fit for most people, and the 10-year battery life makes this an easy watch to own.

Seiko does a great job of manufacturing a full line of watches but when we look for a feature-packed model with a reasonable price tag, there isn’t much coming out of the company at the moment. The SBQJ015 is from a time when Seiko delivered an impressive spec sheet at a very affordable price.

It is hard to find anything like the SBQJ015 outside of the Grand Seiko line at the moment. It combines high-performance with a sexy titanium case and bracelet which makes the SBQJ015 worth looking for if you like Seiko. These beauties can still be found on the used market, although, given the titanium case, immaculate specimens are going to be harder to find as time goes on.
