Owner review: Seiko Prospex SRPE93K

Seiko Prospex SRPE93K

My Last watch buy for 2022 the Seiko Prospex SRPE93K or the Turtle as it is affectionally referred to , is big, clumsy and a little ugly like the author. I have had my eye on a few limited editions over the years but when one of my Brothers came down with his vintage 6309 that he found on a beach in Fiji in the mid 1980s I knew I wanted the standard version. I have a baby version 38mm Seiko diver (the 4205-0155 ) that I just had serviced but whilst a lovely watch falls a little short on my wrist .

The Seiko Prospex SRPE93K, as I understand it, is the same as the SRP 777 except for a change on the caseback (I may be wrong there ). This was a great Boxing Day sale deal at 40% off and came with the usual soft rubber strap which fits snug on my wrist. There are plenty of alternatives which, having sold my last 22mm watch last year, I’m keen to explore , plus it has has drilled lug holes which is a bonus in my books .

Now I’m not a diver, more of a snorkeler and beach swimmer (and desk diver )but it will get lots of water time ( it’s rated for 200m). Just having worn the Seiko Prospex SRPE93K for a week I can say its size is actually not that noticeable. It’s easy enough to find the stats but it’s a 44mm case weights about 122 grams (with rubber strap ) and it has a power reserve of about 41hrs from the automatic caliber 4r36 movement.

It’s a very utilitarian watch but I think all my watches are. The lume plots glow all night and the case has a great stainless finish to it. I could have chased a vintage Turtle but I wanted a hassle free fun watch and I probably have enough vintage watches anyway .
