Owner Review: Rolex GMT Master 1675

Rolex GMT Master 1675

Long before the Rolex GMT Master 1675, my watch collecting journey had been quite an interesting one. When I first started, I shuddered to think that paying $2000 for a simple Omega Seamster was just nuts when a Seiko for $200 could fulfil exactly the same task. I soon found out that the beautiful wide world of horology has many brands who through the years have achieved great feats, whether it is landing on the moon or deep diving the Mariana Trench.

As impressive as such feats are I wanted something that was revolutionary however it needn’t boast all the time about how great it was and that watch for me is the Rolex GMT Master 1675. As soon as I held a 1675 in my hands it was love at first sight yet to me the ultimate one would be finding a 1675, the way the bezel on the Pepsi variant would fade, how slim the case is it all appealed to me, but most importantly I’m a sucker for vintage stuff.

So one day it happened, there I was casually scrolling through facebook and a Rolex GMT Master 1675 shows up, exactly what I wanted and longed for all these years, but would it be a scenario of the age old saying that you should never meet your heroes? Thankfully I decided, while anxiously waiting for DHL to deliver the watch, that keeping my expectations low would certainly avoid any disappointment and what an absolutely beautiful watch it truly is.

Rolex GMT Master 1675

Unlike the Rolex GMT Master 1675 modern counterparts, here is a piece that to me has aged like fine wine, its scratches and marks tell stories that I wish it could tell me, the pop of the colour on the bezel is beautiful and makes it one of my most striking pieces in my collection and whenever I have worn the piece out at any watch related event I have gone to, people get excited that they see this piece actually get worn and used not hidden in a safe like a gold bar.

If you are sick of waiting for the call from the AD that may or may not ever happen, I strongly advise looking into a vintage Rolex. Keep in mind, before Rolex watches became commodities, these were workhorses that could brave deep seas, mountains, harsh terrains and be used to navigate their wearers all around the globe. Should you choose to put a vintage Rolex on your wrist, you wear a story, a story of a watch that was at the time purchased because it could be trusted in complete confidence that whatever task it was born to do, it would do it and like an old Landcruiser in the desert, it will never let you down.
