Owner Review: Oris ChronOris – Racy Vintage Vibe!

Oris ChronOris Date

Let me start by saying that I really do love the Oris ChronOris!

I have owned this watch for almost 2 years now and it makes me smile every time I wear it. For my just over 7 inch wrist it is a perfect everyday size at 39mm in diameter and 43 mm lug to lug. Its thickness of 12.5mm allows it to wear solidly on the wrist without being overbearing.

I received this watch on the black leather strap and it is of good quality. I prefer bracelets on my watches though, so I mounted an after market Strapcode oyster-style bracelet that works well. The ChronOris is available to purchase with a bracelet, but its style did not appeal to me.

The ChronOris vintage vibe comes from its roots, dating back to the original ChronOris chronograph of 1970. Like the original ChronOris chronograph, the ChronOris Date has cut out lugs and stunning sunburst brushed finishing along the top side of the case.

What initially drew me to this watch, was its 2 crown set up, a bit like a vintage super compressor watch. The top crown does not screw down and it manages the time, date and winding. The bottom crown is a screw down and it controls the internal bezel. This is a small gripe that I have with the watch, in my opinion both crowns should be screw down.

The ChronOris movement is the reliable Selitta SW200-1 automatic with a 38 hour power reserve. The crystal is a slightly domed sapphire that covers the very legible grey, black and white dial with orange accents.

If you are looking for a Swiss vintage style watch, with a racing history that is modestly sized, wears very comfortably and is priced competitively, take a long look at the Oris ChronOris.
