Owner Review: Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy

Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy

Back in 2015 the infamous reference 311.32.42.30.04.003 Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy was released. I was unfortunately too late to put down an order since I knew I was about to move from sunny California to a different continent a few months later and wouldn’t be around to collect it from my local AD. To make things even worse, the demand was so high that the production batch of 1970 pieces was instantly sold out worldwide.

Early 2016, meanwhile residing close to Amsterdam, I started again to look around to get my hands on one. What certainly attracted me most was the “I don’t care” mentality by putting a “silly” cartoon on a €6000 watch. It matched my way of not taking myself too seriously. Even though prices went instantly through the roof I persisted and finally found a brand new example via a grey market dealer in Rome. With a small premium of 100%. Still, I had decided to buy my very first Speedmaster and it had to be this one! Little did I know that the price would keep creeping up in the years to follow.

In combination with the ultra white dial and the black varnished hands, the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy has a black ceramic bezel with a Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale. It renders the Speedmaster into a wonderful expression of monochrome power. The most prominent detail is of course the flat-out on its belly Snoopy figure at 9 o’clock with the text balloon “Failure is not an option”.

Other unique decorations on the dial are the 14 small squares between zero and 14 seconds combined with the text “what could you do in 14 seconds?”. Thus referring to the improvised 14 seconds engine burns the astronauts had to precisely perform to safely bring back their lunar module back to mother earth. And did l mention already the enameled case-back. It contains a 925 sterling silver medallion depicting Snoopy wearing a space suit?
