Owner Review: Omega Speedmaster Racing Schumacher – A Splash Of Colour!

Omega Speedmaster Racing Schumacher

I’m going to tell you about my Omega Speedmaster Racing Schumacher Ref. 3510.12.00. This unusual Omega Speedmaster is a smaller version of the classic Omega Moonwatch series. It features a 39mm stainless steel case, Hesalite crystal, the dial is yellow with luminous hour indices, printed black calibrations and black hands, that gives it a great readability at first glance. It has an automatic movement, based on the ETA 2890-A2 caliber with a Dubois-Dépraz 2020 chronograph module added to it, that Omega renamed as caliber 1141.

This explains why the two pushers and the crown are not aligned. This watch was part of an Omega’s 1996 series of only three models: yellow dial for Jordan Grand Prix, blue dial for Benetton and red dial for Scuderia Ferrari. This particular model was unveiled on 22 July 1996 by Michael Schumacher in Kerpen, Germany.

Despite that, these colourful watches were not limited or special editions, the number you can see engraved on the case back is the serial number. At the time you were able to buy this watch with either a stainless-steel bracelet or matching double ridged yellow leather strap.

What fascinates me about this Omega Speedmaster Racing Schumacher beyond its accuracy, great quality, and so on, is its presence on the wrist. It is not the classic black Omega Speedmaster. It doesn’t even have a classic watch dial colour. It’s the kind of watch that you love or hate, and nothing in between. For me, it was love at first sight. I just couldn’t resist it. At first, you may think that yellow dial pieces might have a lack of versatility, but I can assure you that it looks great with casual clothing. Even though it is not a dressy watch, it adds a bit of colour to a dressier outfit.
