Owner review: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is a legend, an icon, and one of the greatest watches of all time. The reason I was so enamored with the Speedmaster was because, as a kid, I was seeing the watch in the local Omega AD and learning about the whole history and the “first watch worn on the moon” story.

As we all know, this was something initially completely fascinating about the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional. Seeing the watch being displayed in its over-the-top, yet spectacular box, in the Omega store made it an “out of reach object” for me as a 13-year-old kid at that time. It was my grail watch.

The Speedmaster is something of a cult classic, it is a rabbit hole when you go deep into the vintage stuff and even today the contemporary snoopy editions are sought after and do command a premium price. The Speedmaster is as close as you can get to the perfect chronograph without having to spend a fortune. Sure the Rolex Daytona is more recognisable and the Datograph more beautiful but the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional watch at its price, makes it the perfect blend of history and quality which is an equilibrium that is only found in a handful of watches today.

The ownership experience over the past 6 months has been fantastic. I wind the watch manually every morning or whenever I take it out of the safe. Taking a minute to wind it and set it, is for me the perfect way to start the day. It looks good with virtually anything, and being on a leather strap makes it a great dress watch as well.

The watch is thin, sits flat, and is comfortable on the wrist. The hesalite crystal and the case that hasn’t changed for decades, make it look and feel like a vintage watch without having the whole host of problems that comes with vintage watches. Overall I can confidently say the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is one of my absolute favorites, it is a classic and should be the first choice for anyone looking for a chronograph to add to their collection.
