Owner Review: Omega Speedmaster Mark 40 Triple Calendar

Omega Speedmaster Mark 40 Triple Calendar 3820.53

When speaking of Omega, the Speedmaster line needs no introduction. The moonwatch gets all the spotlight but the Omega Speedmaster Mark 40 Triple Calendar 3820.53 in some people’s opinion is the ugliest design ever created by Omega. Calling the MK40 “ugly” might be a bit harsh though, it could certainly be described as colorful, bold and unmistakably one of a kind.

The MK40 is without a doubt feature packed. Running the ETA Valjoux 7751-based Caliber 1151 it is a reliable movement with a 44 hour power reserve. Month and Day at the 12 o’clock position,  a 24hrs day/night indicator at 9 o’clock, yellow plane tip date pointer and yeah, the chronograph. Don’t let the complications scare you, with basic watch knowledge, the MK40 is easy to operate and easy to remember. No instruction needed. If you are looking for a watch that can offer more, the MK40 is what you are looking for.

With a 39mm diameter and smooth bracelet, the MK40 is super comfortable on the wrist. The size is perfect even by today’s standards. The use of color made this complex watch easy to read. I love how the month-day wheel plates are done with a black background along with white text. It blends in so well that sometimes I don’t even notice it’s there until I need it.

With a colorful, bold and highly recognizable design, some men will feel it is hard to wear. Mentally. After years of ownership, there is no need to overthink it. The reality is that the MK40 goes well with pretty much everything. Not to mention that the leather and nato strap options available are beyond insane.

The Omega Speedmaster Mark 40 Triple Calendar 3820.53 is a piece with extra flare and extra character. It reflects who you are. Extra special.
