I was always captivated by Omega as a brand, and the Speedy going to the moon. The Moonwatch professional is a little too big for my small wrist and to be honest, as much as I like the watch, personally I appreciate an automatic movement on for daily use. So as I was choosing the right one for me, this Omega Speedmaster Racing Co-axial spoke to me the most. I really like the colors in comparison to just black & white.
When I bought my Omega, I was relatively new to so-called luxury watches, so the big wooden presentation box was the first thing that made an impression on me.
My Speedy has really served me well over the couple of years that I have owned it. It keeps time to Chronometer specs as it should, because it is one. It sits so well on the wrist that it would be easy to forget that I was even wearing a watch, but as the watch fan that I am, it’s impossible!
The bracelet is very comfortable and robustly made, and the locking system is easy to use, but also reliable. Not once has it opened unwittingly.
The caseback is closed and has of course the legendary Omega hippocampus to remind us that the Speedmaster was once part of a Seamaster family and the watch is waterproof to 100 metres. The movement that beats behind the caseback is the Omega Calibre 3330, it is based on the ETA/Valjoux, so it is not an in-house movement, but Omega has made serious changes to it, like the addition of a column wheel and a co-axial escapement. The movement is decorated/finished rather nicely, of course one can not see it through the caseback, but at least for me, when I pay this kind of money for a watch, I REALLY like to know that it’s beautiful inside and out. The chronograph is precise and the pushers are crisp. And I also use it, often.
The dial is nicely finished and it feels like I still find new details in it, after all these years.
So to sum it up, this Omega Speedmaster Racing Co-axial really gives you a lot of bang for your buck.
