Owner Review – NTH Amphion Vintage Gilt

NTH Amphion Vintage Gilt

So I hear you’re in the market to own yet another Mil-sub with a heavy dash of the “H-word” sprinkled in for good measure. If you are looking for a watch that exhibits its heritage in the form of a vintage gilt relief dial, submariner style design cues, and sexy ass sword hands, then the NTH Amphion Vintage Gilt will impress. When firing on all cylinders, the Amphion draws its inspiration from iconic military behemoths who came before and it reveals a classy construction and finish. However, the decision to veer into the not so subtle territory may keep it from the ever so coveted and exclusive “daily drivers” spot, or sliding in to your “DDs” as no one has ever referred to it. “It’s Neo-vintage”, “No, it’s contemporary”. While in Greek mythology, Amphion, was the son of Antiope and Zeus, it is also ancient greek for “Native of two lands” and “On both sides”. So it stands to reason that this watch sits pretty comfortably between modern and classic as well as appears obvious that I’m writing this very late at night and spewing straight nonsense to meet my character quota.

I’m gonna be honest with you, you already know if you want this watch. It’s not a leap of faith, rather just how much you’ll keep it in rotation over all the other watches in your collection. If I had to nitpick about things personally I do not like, it’d be the pvd coated bezel insert instead of a ceramic one, that being my only grievance. But boasting a workhorse miyota movement, 300m water resistance in a low profile case that is beautifully finished, here on full display are the characteristics of a watch made by people who love watches. That and the gilt-relief dial are worth the price of admission. So is this NTH Amphion Vintage Gilt your daily driver? Well, it sure as shit could be. The only thing holding you back is your imagination for strap combinations.
