Owner Review: Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds – Big & Curvaceous

Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds

The day I am writing this review marks exactly two months with the Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds on the wrist and it has pretty much been that way because I have struggled to take it off. Where do I start? To me, the Moser Pioneer is the full package, a beautiful watch, great movement, sexy style and curves, and from a brand that speaks to my rebellious side. You don’t have to look too far to see that Moser are just kicking goals and having a piece of their pie was only going to be a matter of time.

This year, my wife had the Moser Pioneer printed on my birthday cake and now that I actually have it, makes it even more special to me. I held one in Melbourne a number of years ago and that’s when I was first intrigued. From the top angle it looks like a normal watch with a beautiful Fume` dial, but then you twist your wrist and it comes alive with so much detail even down to the engravings on the steel buckle. The watch is stainless steel with steel indices and hands and a titanium crown (not sure why but meh). The dial is minimalistic as per Moser style with a simple and elegant brand logo and no “Swiss Made” font to be seen.

Measuring in at a sizable 42.8mm, the Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds wears well on my wrist due to the curved down lugs that help contour to the shape of my wrist. Housed inside is the Moser Cal HMC200 with a “slowish” beat rate of 21,600 vph, 27 jewels and an automatic bi-directional pawl winding system. Featuring hacking seconds, 72-hour minimum power reserve and the stunning double crested “Moser Stripes”. With a sporty 120m water resistant rating and screw down crown what’s not to love?

Although most people will not wear the Moser Pioneer on different straps, believe it or not, it takes a khaki nato like a champ as well as Moser’s beautiful alligator leather and the OEM bright and loud orange rubber strap. The buckle is an absolute work of art and engineering, it’s hard to explain until you see it in person and put it on the wrist. It has a groove, so the strap sits flush to the wrist. Too hard to explain, just go try one on. The dome crystal is a surprise to many because you can’t quite see the depth from a front on shot. While I do really like the watch, I often find myself turning my wrist into my side while walking through doors etc because it wears high and I am worried I’ll end up cracking it.

Most people who know me know I am a huge fan of Moser, before owning one I was their biggest fan that didn’t own one. They just speak to me in a way that no other watch brand does, and I know I am not alone with that sentiment. Their quality and feel on the wrist and in the hand is luxurious and solid, their dials are the “OG” Fume` and while many will try to imitate, they will not come close. I can’t speak highly enough about this watch and the Moser brand; I am a proud owner and can see many more Moser’s in my collection in years to come. The Moser Pioneer is that cool mix between dress and sports watch and in a world where SS Sports watches are the “in thing”, I find this one to be a step back in the right direction.

Grrrr!! I had my next watch purchase down to two possible choices with one being the clear leader. Moser had been a ‘some day’ watch but now I’m struggling to postpone the emotional pull of this brand.
