Owner Review: King Seiko Day Date 5626-7000

King Seiko 5626-7000 Day Date

Now I have had a hankering for one of these King Seiko 5626-7000 Day Dates for a while, so when one popped up on a Facebook watch group after a wine or 4 , I jumped on it. This was my first horological purchase on that particular platform, it was a good price and you know what they say about that. Anyway moving forward after a full service it is running great again ( Adrian at Vintage time Australia does great work ) so now apart from the ravishes of time i.e. some lacquer flake around the dial, it’s running as good as new.

This waterproof, automatic King Seiko 5626 -7000 Day Date is from June 1970. It’s a Hi-Beat 28,800 vph model , a Seiko calibre 5625A movement with fine-regulation and a self-winding mechanism. It opens as stated on the case back, thru the glass (mineral crystal in this case ). There is a screw between the 6 0’clock lugs that opens to reveal a regulating screw, I’m not a technical watch guy so I’ll leave that alone.

The case back has the gold medallion King Seiko logo in great condition as well. It’s a nice size watch and has long lugs so sits quite large on my wrist, I normally wear a 40mm comfortably so I was surprised how well this 36mm case fit. The lugs are 18mm and I am slowly finding some good straps for it. Sadly it did not come with the King Seiko buckle. They are commanding huge money and I can live without it to be honest, although I still check the Japanese buy and sell pages. Overall the King Seiko 5626-7000 Day Date is a great vintage watch that I’m happy to wear every day in rain, hail or shine and yes I have bought another watch off Facebook since but that’s another story.

Nice piece! And if you sent it to Adrian, it’s probably running better than when it was new… 🙂

I have the 5626-7010 variant, again with the regulating screw. It works, I’ve tried it. Very cool watches.
