Owner Review: Cartier Crash

Cartier Crash

Having admired the Cartier Crash for several decades and having been confused over the case size of the various editions since the original was released by London in 1968, the closest encounter was with the ladies version which was way too small for me, even a diehard vintage collector where smaller case sizes are the norm.

The news of a new larger cased version being released by Cartier London in January 2019 and at a reasonable price had me contact the Boutique immediately and place an order for the one a month limited production. I was fortunate to get the third release.

The watch is of course iconic in terms of its heritage and association with the brand in as much as The Tank design itself is but on the wrist it eludes swag and is a statement on the wrist to the extent of being a head turner!

On the wrist the watch is snug and it sits comfortably. The protruding shape of the case does take a bit of getting used to. The described size of 41.9 x 23.3 is meaningless as one has to have this on the wrist to make a call given the shape.  Even for the Daytona and Nautilus brigade the case size will undoubtedly still be small but the watch sure draws compliments even from them! For sure it is a statement piece and a work of art on the wrist.

The watch has a calibre 8971MC movement within, which is a mechanical one. It is also water-resistant to 30m.

To me the Cartier Crash is an everyday watch if you can carry it off; formal or even with t-shirt and jeans.
