The Seiko Perpetual Calendar GMT 8F56-0080 was produced way before I got into collecting watches. It features an original and distinctive case design that looks like no other watch on the market, even today. In addition to the unique case design, it has a nicely integrated bracelet that nicely tapers down to make the watch look smaller on the wrist. On the wrist, it gives off a very ‘masculine’ character with the watch wearing on the large side on my six and three quarter inch wrist. The watch feels like it is properly put together with a well aligned sub dial, which sadly cannot be said for some of the newer Seiko models.

It is powered by Seiko’s 8F56 movement which has the unique complication of an integrated Perpetual Calendar. This negates the need for a manual date change at the end of the month if the last day of the month is not on the 31st. From my personal experience, the watch has only gained 5 seconds since setting the time last year which is a remarkable feat. It is a reliable fuss free movement that needs little or no maintenance.

The dial features an applied Seiko logo accompanied by polished markers that frame the dial, which is finished in a Guilloche-esque pattern. It is an appealing design that always catches my attention.

In summary, the Seiko Perpetual Calendar GMT 8F56-0080 is a fantastic watch if you are able to find one, as these are hard to come by especially in Titanium. This watch would be suitable for most casual occasions but I do not think it will fit right under a cuff. It has a fantastically reliable movement as well as an eye catching dial. As the saying goes, ‘They don’t make them like they used to”.
