Zentier Z2 ? Yep …. Like all of you I’d never herd of it.
Thanks to our good friend @scaramanga__, who has a great eye for cool, different and appealing pieces that are off the beaten track, for bringing it to the attention of his followers.
Why then is the Zentier Z2 in my watch box? Well it all starts with a mate of mine who is an avid collector of Russian dress watches. I have been chatting to him on zoom over the last year and a half and only in recent months did it occur to me that I have not once seen him with a watch on in any of our calls.
I asked him if he had kicked the addiction and sold all his pieces? He said Nah, just have to wash my hands and arms so much that I couldn’t be bothered taking my watches off and putting them back on 12 to 15 times per day! He basically hasn’t worn any of his watches during the pandemic for fear of ruining them.
So that lead to a discussion about preferred affordable, small, slender, dive watches. I landed on my old favourite the Baltic Aquascaphe with the BOR bracelet. He responded with, “too much of an old man’s watch”.
Coming from a collector of vintage Russian pieces that was unfathomable !!! So what else is out there? I was on a mission.
Enter Scaramanga__’s IG post and 3 days latter there was a package at the door.
The Zentier Z2 is undoubtedly eye candy ! A lively and appealing dial is housed in a thoughtfully put together and very sporty case. The screw down crown gives it 100m of water resistance and a minimalist guard rounds off the robust and sporty feel that is undoubtedly promoted by the 8 bezel screws that are refreshingly unfamiliar but speak the language of others !
The engine room has a Seagull ST-1701 Automatic Movement. Totally unfamiliar territory for me but so far I’m impressed that it is accurate and silent. It has a smoothish feel about it but of course its not the buttery mechanics from the houses of haute horology !
The majority of the action of the Zentier Z2 “lagoon” is dial side. Highly reflective hands and indicies sparkle over the tropical paradise like blue dial that is remarkably well designed and created. There is plenty of light play and lots of shades of light sky blue and aqua green. There is depth and dimension and it all pops like Champagne on New Years Eve !
I’m not much of a strap fan at the best of times so there was absolutely no way the delivered rubber strap was going to last the first day out. Sure enough it wasn’t long until the mesh magic appeared and it not only did it make it fell right at home in my watch box but very much so on my wrist as well.
Its superbly comfortable, very addictive to the eye and runs well.
A perfect package for someone who has to wash their hands all day and night I thought! It looks very robust, feels sporty, sits comfortably and I’m looking forward to more wrist time.
The Zentier Z2 is heading to my mate for a few days, I’m looking forward to getting it back soon though as it looks like the perfect summer watch !
