Owner review: Urban Jurgensen 1140

Urban Jurgensen 1140

In 2019 I went to Hong Kong to collect a watch I acquired from an independent watchmaker that was delivered to my friend there for tax purposes. Whilst there a friend recommended a watch dealer that was known for specialising in small independent watches. When I visited the store I was shown a lot of watches and when I laid eyes on this Urban Jurgensen 1140 it really shocked me, particularly when it was placed side by side with a Kari Voutilainen!

I went on to research the brand in some detail and I eventually fell in love with the limited edition they launched in Basel. The champagne guilloche dial with beautiful polished breguet applied numerals was irresistible. The dial was originally only made for platinum cases.

I talked to the dealer and eventually he was able to get me the limited number that I love… which was the last unit of the 50 units made, I have 50/50!

I was amazed when I received the Urban Jurgensen 1140, its packaging is as good as Patek Philippe, if not better. It came in a sealed paper box, the fine cloth wrapping the solid wooden watch box and clay certificates all included.

The tear drop lugs on the Urban Jurgensen 1140 case has long been the brand DNA, the 40mm size gives it perfect presence on my wrist. The case is a joy to wear and I find it most comfortable.

I could not help but get out the 10x loupe to inspect the details of the Urban Jurgensen 1140. I was amazed by the guilloche dial, it is flawless! It’s truly eye candy under the loupe.

Flipped over, the 5 days power reserve handwind movement is also perfectly finished and decorated. Anglage on the edges of bridges might not be a wide curve but it’s properly hand finished. The movement has stripes on bridges in a sunburst effect instead of the typical geneve style.

Let’s enjoy the photos of the Urban Jurgensen 1140 and let the macro photo do the rest of the talking!
