You could say ‘Undone’ watches are ‘Unknown’ to people in the watch world. I certainly didn’t know about it prior to seeing some advertisements and doing some research.
Undone focuses on fashion items, and has built its brand on allowing customers to customise their watch to their liking. Every now and again, they’ll have collaborations with some well-known anime/cartoon houses.
This leads me to my very own Undone X Snoopy. There have been a few collaborations where different Snoopy themed dials have been done as of late, however what makes my one different is that it was only available in Japan and sold through ‘Hankyu’ department stores only.
Did I have to have it? No. Was I curious? Yes. So much so I got my friend to bring one back for me.
It houses a Seiko VK61 hybrid quartz chronograph, rated to 30m water resistance, 40mm in size and is based on their ‘Urban’ model. Nothing too fancy about the specs, but it works (sort of – you’ll read why in a second). If you jump on their website, there’s a myriad of customizations options, almost like ticking off the option list on a luxury car purchase.
How does it wear? Ok. Unlike the other Undone watch series, this edition came on a perlon strap only, which I swapped out almost immediately. For me, perlons just feel flimsy and cheap. It’s probably a good time to mention that when I received the watch, the chrono hands fell out and it was floating around in the crystal. I don’t know if this was a QC issue or if this occurred during its flight here with my friend – luckily it was an easy enough fix without the need to send it back to Japan.
I won’t say I’m crazy about the watch, nor will I say that I’m disappointed. What I will say is that it’s unique and a ‘fun’ watch for what it is.
…Maybe my point of view would have changed if my above two gripes didn’t exist. Shame really…
