Daytona..Daytona..Daytona.. Admit it – you want one. Everyone wants one. Heck, I want one too. 🙂 But gone are the days wherein you can walk to a Rolex AD and get yourself the watch of your dreams to celebrate that promotion or event in your life. Yeah, it’s been like that for a number of years and has gotten worse this pandemic. I’m in the queue for a Daytona for almost 3 years now… and I honestly don’t think I would ever get that call from my AD.
I’m relatively new to collecting watches (started in 2015) but I’ve always been an enthusiast who appreciates and admires watches from a distance. I do have a decent collection today and just waiting (praying) for that call from the AD to get my Daytona. Just like many enthusiasts, when we get that itch you need to scratch it – I had to look for an alternative to give me that fix of a solid chronograph.
Enter – Tudor Tiger Prince Date 79280P. I got this watch from a fellow enthusiast who was consolidating his collection at that time. I knew and have experienced Tudor watches in the past but had never seen the Tudor Tiger Prince Date in the metal. As expected it’s built like a tank (definitely has all the Rolex DNA from a build and finishing perspective). When I first tried it, it just felt right. I’ve scratched the itch! I wear the Tudor Tiger Prince Date proudly and though it looks like a Daytona, it can stand on its own (heck it even has a date complication which I love).
There were a few iterations of this Tudor line, but I opted for the slimmer version 792xx series instead of the Big Block (that is more desirable). I also choose the more sterile dial instead of the popular panda dial as I thought it has more charm and would stand out from the crowd. 🙂
