The Tudor Oyster Prince 7995 with the “Tuxedo Dial” is an almost iconic example of mid-60’s culture (this particular watch was manufactured in 1966). It was originally intended to be strictly a dress watch and typifies the style of watch many would wear to work along with a suit during this period.
The Tudor Oyster Prince 7995 features a bullseye matte black tuxedo dial with a silver inner bezel which to me is beautiful and eye-catching without being gaudy. It has a perfectly sized 34mm case width, typical of dress watches of that era. It is very similar to the watch appropriately chosen for the dapper dressed Madmen character Roger Sterling.
I love vintage watches primarily for the nostalgia and history that they bestow upon the lucky wearer. Tudor was a great option for regular working folks — they were durable with the Rolex Oyster case, tasteful, reliable, perfectly functional, and affordable. I think this particular model has an automatic ETA 2483 movement, although I’m not 100% sure on the caliber (and I’m not going to open it up myself just to find out!). I’ll discover that from the watchmaker when it next needs a service. The Tudor Oyster Prince 7995 keeps great time, although I haven’t actually measured its accuracy, nor the movement’s amplitude, so I definitely don’t yet qualify to be called a true “watch geek.”
