Tudor took the watch world by storm when it reintroduced itself with the highly anticipated Heritage Collection in the early 2010s. Among all the models, the Black Bay heritage line played the most crucial role in reasserting the Tudor brand back to “relevancy.” I immediately fell in love with the Black Bay Red reference 7922R when it was released. The burgundy bezel, the domed sapphire crystal, and the gilt lettering on that gorgeous no-date symmetrical brown dial. I really appreciated the overall package that the Black Bay Red represented. However, my personal style just wasn’t flamboyant (in a good way) enough to pull this watch off. I ended up never pulling the trigger. Fast forward two years and Tudor introduced the Black Bay Blue 79220B with midnight blue  bezel (just so happens to be my favorite color) and I was hooked.

It had the same beautifully domed sapphire crystal, and the silver lettering on a no-date symmetrical black dial. The decision was easy, I pulled the trigger and have been a happy owner for five years now. I don’t have a regret in the world.

Some might say that it’s not a Rolex Submariner. For me, it doesn’t have to be a Rolex. A Tudor is perfect as it is and it is perfect for me. Some might also say that the first-generation Black Bays don’t have the much lauded Tudor in-house movements in them. For me, the well respected ETA 2824 is reliable with a long proven track record, and it is also much cheaper when the time comes to get it serviced. It is truly versatile as I wear it to work with suits and on trips with hoodies and jeans. In my humble opinion the Tudor Black Bay Blue 79220B is the best watch in its price point.
