Although blue is my favorite color, I’ve always loved green watches. I owned the Rolex Submariner Hulk for a couple of years before selling it off, in favor of the 50th anniversary Submariner, aka the Kermit. So when the Tudor Black Bay Harrods edition was launched last year in late 2017, I was drooling all over it.
It had similar design cues to the Kermit- Black dial with a green aluminium bezel. It still retained the typical Heritage black bay features- snowflake hands, gilt chapter ring dial, slight domed crystal, no crown guards, big winding crown with rose logo, bevelled edges on the case and to finish it off, a rivet style steel bracelet. The Harrods Edition had special features that differentiated it from the normal Heritage Black Bay: a green bezel, green edged tip off the second’s hand, green depth rating text, but feet first, as opposed to meters first (British are used to measuring distances and depth in feet), a numbered caseback (in line with Tudor’s Military past) with special Harrods engravings. The green touches pays homage to Harrods’ trademark green.
The watch gives a much warmer tone compared to the kermit, and I love the fact that it doesn’t have a date to give that wonderful symmetry! At 41mm, it certainly favours collectors with larger wrists, but its still a gorgeous watch, and its very versatile with most straps for those who love changing it up a little. The famous snowflake hands are instantly recognizable from afar, and up-close, the domed dial has a wonderfully textured finish.
Tudor has really made a big impact in recent years. The strong comeback has been largely due to the Black Bay range, with distinct features drawn from the vintage pieces and rich history. The Tudor Black Bay Harrods Edition firmly attests to this, and is by far the hottest & most elusive Black Bay at the moment.
