Owner Review: Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue

Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue

The Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue (more affectionately known as the Tudor 5B) was first released in 2018. As I had never owned a bronze watch, it was interesting to see Bucherer launch this model to commemorate its 130 anniversary. Exclusively available at Bucherer outlets, it bears several Bucherer related signatures:

1. Bucherer blue bezel and blue dial; and
2. the words Bucherer and the numbers 1888 engraved on the caseback.

I’ve had this piece for slightly more than a year already and truth be told, it’s one piece I think every Tudor fan should have in their collection. While some complain about the modern Tudors being relatively thick, I have no issues with that. In fact, while my wrists are relatively small (16cm or 6 and 1/4 inches), I think it wears quite well on me.

The oxidization of the bronze is another interesting feature of this watch, which makes every piece unique – something similar to patina some would get on the 4 and 5 digit rolexes in terms of the hands, bezels, and markers on the dials.

From the words on the dial, the hands and the minute markers, the gold accents complements and works well with the bronze case. No issues with legibility for me and I personally find the dial to be fairly clean.

Now to the technicals: the in-house cal. MT5601 provides a power reserve of 70 hours, more than enough for most people. In addition, it’s COSC certified- bang for buck at this price point.

The Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue is a watch for any occasion, I wear this piece to work, on weekends and to weddings and I never find it to be out of place. I’ve swapped out the OEM brown strap with an aftermarket one and if I had anything to complain about this piece, it would be that I suspect the OEM strap might not last, and the replacement cost of such might not be worth it, given that there are many other cheaper alternatives.

I love Tudors bronze offerings! The “369” dial remands me so much of early Rolex subs (6200). I wish they would come out with a stainless steel version though.
