Owner Review: S.U.F Vetehinen – Not for Everyone

S.U.F Vetehinen

The S.U.F Vetehinen is great for people like me who love Stepan Sarpaneva’s higher-end Sarpaneva branded watches but cannot afford them! While the standard SUF (SarpanevaUhrenFabrik) Vetehinen in stainless steel already looks good, IMO this Ltd Edition (26pces) looks beautiful in a gothic sort of way and the closer you look the better it gets.

The watch has a very dark green sunburst galvanic dial from the Comblemine dial factory and has good lume, lighting up well in/after sunlight, especially the big 12 o’clock pip which is matte and perfectly flush with the bezel surface. Mo Coppoletta is a well-known London tattoo artist, and he’s nailed it with this bezel design which gives it a unique look and is even better studied under a loup…it can take on quite a dark surface oxidisation if not worn for a few months. It does take on and keep some purple/coloured oxidisation in the ‘dips’ between the 12 gripping protrusions around the bezel, and looks so nice.

Case is DLC…I’m not normally a big fan of black surface treatment and this is my only black-case watch…however here it really makes the piece and sets off the bronze nicely. The hands are typical Stepan Sarpaneva style: each polished on one half and frosted (micro-blasted) on the other and in a distinct very cool arrow shape, with decent lume. It has 2mm thick sapphire on top with internal anti-reflective coating & sapphire back. The python-skin strap (black, with dark green colour showing through between the scales) looks wicked. It comes with an Erikas Original MN strap too, which personally I don’t like as it makes the watch feel cheaper. I usually wear it on a standard two-piece black horween strap as per pic, to save the snakeskin strap for special occasions and Halloween (!).

I don’t wear the S.U.F Vetehinen often, but when I do it brings a smile to my face and is a real conversation starter.
