Is the Sinn 104 still one of the best value tool watches on the market right now?
The Sinn 104 is a pretty close to entry-level piece from German watchmaking powerhouse Sinn. Aimed at the tool watch user and with a distinct aviator vibe, with more than a touch of dive watch to its aesthetic and spec. It is available in several dial configurations, with the version in question being the original 104 ST SA I. It features a classic black dial, luminous indices, Sellita SW 220-1 automatic movement with day and date display, stainless steel 41mm case with 20mm lug spacing, 200m of water resistance plus sapphire crystal front and back. Quite a lot of watch for under 2k AUD.
So what is the Sinn 104 like to wear? Pretty amazing, actually. The sizing is spot on for my 7.5 inch wrist. The case isn’t too thick at 11.5mm, and in conjunction with the amazing lug shape, it sits nice and flat on the wrist. It is also a bit of a strap monster, and the common 20mm lug spacing makes finding options a breeze.
I have owned the Sinn 104 for 5 years now, and it still looks pretty much as good as when it was brand new. Nothing has gone wrong, the case has held up amazingly, and it is just generally an all-around great watch that easily breezes between boardroom and beach. Can’t quite afford or justify a Rolex Submariner yet? Then look no further, the Sinn 104 has you and me covered.
