I discovered the Sinn 103 St almost ten years ago, around the time of my first watch loves. I was hungry to learn as much as I could about watches, especially chronographs and military watches. What I also loved about Sinn watches was the fact that they were not using extensive marketing bullshit to make you believe they offer the best watch you can buy. It is just a fact: for that money, it’s hard to get anything better if you are looking for a very well done chronograph with nice finishing and a precise, reliable movement ticking inside. Maybe the Germanic integrity.
Anyway, at that time, I had absolutely no money for that kind of thing, but the seed was planted. 10 years later, I had the chance to find one online, sold by an old German guy (first owner) at an attractive price. It was only one hour drive from home, so the very same day I had the baby on my wrist, lucky me!
This one is an early version, from 1995-1996 when they switch from the so-called “Helmut Era” to the modern era. At that time they started to use serial numbers 103XXXX and inventory them. Thus it still has a tritium dial with the lovely “T SWISS MADE T” at 6, the tritium hands and acrylic glass. This adds to the perfect vintage look I love so much. What I also really like about the Sinn 103 is the non-symmetric architecture of the dial, making the watch somehow more dynamic, alive on the wrist. Size and proportions fit well on my 17cm wrist for a sporty feeling, with a diameter of 41 mm and an overall thickness of about 15mm.
Overall I just love the Sinn 103 St, its sophisticated simplicity, the vintage look, the reliability. It’s also different because of its German origins, something you don’t see so often. It’s a perfect daily wearer in any conditions and makes me want more, especially a 156 with the Lemania 5100. It’s a never ending story.
