Owner review: Rolex Day-Date Everose 36mm Eisenkissel Dial

Rolex Day-Date

Ask any watch collector about a Rolex and I’m sure some will tell you that the Rolex Day-Date is the epitome of what Rolex has to offer. The Day-Date is colloquially referred to as the Rolex President as a few US Presidents have been pictured wearing Day-Dates. While Rolex doesn’t specifically refer to Day-Dates as a “President”, its bracelet is officially referred to as a president bracelet with its concealed folding crown clasp.

The Rolex Day-Date only comes in precious metal variants with yellow, white, pink gold and platinum models only. This specific piece comes with a distinctive Eisenkisel, diamond set dial. What is Eisenkisel you may ask? Eisenkiesel translates literally to “iron pebble” in German and it is a quartz that predominantly is found in yellow, red or brown hues with iron inclusions. Eisenkisel used by Rolex is dark brown and the iron inclusions are chocolate brown in colour, which blends in perfectly with the everose gold. Stone dials are notoriously difficult to manufacture given how thin the dials are and the Eisenkisel dial is one of the new stone dial variants Rolex introduced in 2021. Given how each stone is different, no two pieces will be the same, which adds to the distinctiveness of this piece, making each of these Rolex Day-Date models in effect, a one of a kind piece!

To add to the flair of this Rolex Day-Date, it comes with a diamond set dial with with Roman numerals at six and nine and hour markets in 18 carat gold set with diamonds.

Coming in at 36mm, I think this is a perfect size (though some might say the 40mm would be a better size). For me, 36mm is the more versatile and classic piece that will never go out of style.

Rolex Day-Date

Being a Rolex Day-Date means it comes with a day and date function with Rolex’s classic cyclops for the date aperture which magnifies the watch’s emblematic date display.

On to more technical details. The calibre 3255 powers this piece with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. It’s not the most complicated of calibres but is extremely reliable. The day and date function can be adjusted relatively easily with a quick set function, and the day and date simultaneously jump to the new position at the strike of midnight.

For me this Rolex Day-Date is an amazing piece, with a stunning, unique dial that makes it such an interesting piece to own. It most definitely won’t be readily available, but I guess the same can be said about most Rolex watches today. That being said, with this piece, you’re unlikely to find yourself bumping into someone else who has the same model, or even if you do, you can be sure that each of your dials would be different from each other!

In a world when some would say steel is the new gold, I beg to differ. Gold is still gold, and I’m extremely grateful to have been offered this Rolex Day-Date and to be able to make it a part of my collection!
