The Rado Captain Cook has been an absolute pleasure to own and I’m glad I went back to try it on a second time.
This watch scratches that new watch itch every time I put it on. When I put this watch on in my wardrobe and I get a moody, close to black dial that makes the bold white indices pop, but when I am outside in the sun the vibrant green has me constantly staring at my wrist.
Aesthetically this watch was not what I typically was attracted to, but after a second glance this watch had the traditional feeling of a sport/dive watch with a streak of elegance. It’s thin and it’s light but still brings a huge wrist presence with is amazing finishing and attention to detail!
The Rado Captain Cook has a minimalist feel to it, the dial is simple, a bright green accompanied by bold white indices and no lines of text, amazing! While it is simple there is still a lot of depth to this dial, the sunburst green paired with the curved dial gives it a depth I didn’t know a dial could have, and although it serves no purpose (that I know of) the anchor at the 12 o’clock gives the dial a certain charm that a printed logo just doesn’t have!
Despite its 21mm lug width there are still strap options. I have worn this watch on rubber, sail cloth, nato and as of today a black Geneva Blue leather strap. The green dial does not limit strap options at all. In a world of quick release straps being able to contrast and pair a watch with different strap materials and colours dependent on outfit, activity and weather is a huge plus in my book!
My “honeymoon period” with a watch is around 2 months, I am 6 months in with the Rado Captain Cook and this one still has my heart. This watch changed the way I collect and was the main reason my collection was reduced by 30 in the last 6 months, I kept reaching for it and if I chose something else the Captain Cook was on my mind!
