Piaget is an interesting brand. They simply don’t get the credit they deserve. Not only are they movement makers, but they are also movement innovators. This Piaget Tiger Eye 9741 sports the famed 9P movement, the slimmest movement ever created at the time. Piaget has continued to push the boundaries when it comes to making ultra slim movements, showcased in their modern Altiplano line. I suggest taking a look because there are some stunners there that could go head to head with any modern dress watch in terms of quality.
With all that being said, and despite my watch housing one of the aforementioned slim movements, this watch is about way more than the what’s under the hood. This Piaget Tiger Eye 9741 is about the hood. It’s all about that very playful and very beautiful Tiger Eye dial. It’s the kind of dial that Carole Baskin would kill her husband for. Luckily for me, this one is mine… and I’m not Carole Baskin’s husband.
I gave this watch a bit of a hit on the wearability and style scores. Although I absolutely love the way this tiny cocktail watch wears on my 7.5 inch wrist, I fully understand it’s not for everyone. Those that are used to wearing larger watches will probably feel super insecure with this on their ape like wrists.
I also imagine many will find this dial too old school. I’ve even heard people compare this dial to the wood paneling on their mother’s station wagon. While I can appreciate the differences I do want to remind you that while you were with your group of friends complaining about your mom’s jello salad some of us were in the back of that station wagon with a different kind of wood. I guess wood paneling isn’t so bad after all.
