Owner Review: Blütezeit Wien N°1 by @w_a_t_c_h_s_t_y_l_e

A personal love letter to an extraordinary watch and an extraordinary city

Blütezeit Wien — A Love Story in Steel and Champagne Sparkle
It all started with a chance encounter on Instagram. While scrolling through my feed, my eyes suddenly stopped on a watch that immediately captured my heart: the Blütezeit Wien. It was love at first sight. One thing was clear: I had to have it!

Meet the Maker
Now, who’s behind this beauty? Not some Swiss watch brand with centuries of marketing budgets at hand, but Mr. Dieter Altenburger. By day, he’s a lawyer. By night (and probably many late nights), he taught himself the art of watchmaking. Years of passion, experiments with design software, endless chats with watchmakers and suppliers – all culminating in this creation. I find it wildly inspiring that someone from a world of legal paragraphs and contracts managed to produce a watch this poetic. Who says lawyers can’t be romantic?

The Looks
The Blütezeit Wien is a three-hand watch with a special twist: a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock that adds a touch of classic elegance. The heat-blued baton hands are deliberately understated, enhancing the watch’s timeless charm.

It’s all about the looks!

But the star of the show is the dial – a sparkling jewel reminiscent of effervescent champagne. Its subtle texture catches the light in a way that feels almost playful, giving the watch a lively, shimmering personality.

The cushion-shaped case ties it all together beautifully. A classic form, but one that radiates elegance and familiarity – and for me, it feels like home.

The Heartbeat
At its heart beats the La Joux Perret 7380, a hand-wound caliber with twin barrels and an impressive 90-hour power reserve. The absence of hacking seconds? Honestly, that’s perfectly Viennese. A bit of laissez-faire, a shrug, a “Viennese Sprezzatura”.

We always enjoy a nice backside

Vienna in a Watch
This watch is so much more than a timekeeper to me – it’s a love letter to Vienna itself. The name Blütezeit Wien carries a double meaning: it reminds me both of springtime in the Prater, when the trees are in full bloom, and of Vienna’s cultural blossoming in the 1980s and 1990s – the exact era when Vienna became my Vienna.

Vienna isn’t just a city in Austria. It’s the city. The cafés, the markets, the museums, the parks, the grand architecture – all of it breathes the air of the wider world, yet it never feels overwhelming.

For centuries, Vienna has been a crossroads of cultures, absorbing influences from East and West, North and South. Out of political tensions, cultural collisions, and social upheavals, the city has forged its very own irresistible charm.

Here, Slavic melancholy meets Mediterranean lightness, Eastern European intensity meets Western European elegance. You can taste it in the food, hear it in the music, see it in the architecture, and feel it in the Viennese way of life. This rich, sometimes contradictory, always fascinating mixture is exactly what makes Vienna unique – and this watch manages to capture that spirit.

Conclusion
The Blütezeit Wien bridges past and present. For me, it’s a daily reminder of a city that will forever hold a special place in my heart. Vienna is exciting, Vienna is unique – just like this watch.

For anyone looking for a timepiece with soul, a watch that tells stories and stirs emotions, the Blütezeit Wien is the perfect choice (though beware – only 100 pieces exist!). It doesn’t just tell time. It whispers dreams, memories, and a deep love for a very special city.

“Some watches tell the time. Others tell stories. The Blütezeit Wien does both – flawlessly.”
