Owner review: Oris Aquis Date Upcycle

Oris Aquis Date Upcycle

I’ve been looking at adding a diver/sports watch to my collection since my preference is still towards dressier timepieces. Oris Aquis has been in my radar but somehow never seems to have pull the trigger. Somehow having a small wrist doesn’t help in my case.

It was in late 2021 that I saw the release of the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle. The unique play of colourful dial caught my attention. No one dial is completely identical which makes it more appealing.

The fact that the actual piece may differ so much from the stock photos. Hence, you got to see the actual piece to gauge if the dial is what you like. Some with patches of colours being concentrated while others maybe a tad more evenly spread out across the dial.

It’s either you love it or don’t as all dials are different in some ways. It took me about 4 months to find one that I love. With each Boutique and ADs only having 1 piece.

Initially I was thinking that the 36mm dial would fit me better but it proves to be small even for my small wrist. The fit on 41.5mm wears slightly smaller than its case size suggests, thanks to its short lugs and tapering bracelet.

The build quality of the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle case and bracelet is amazing given its price. I would say it’s not far off from Rolex; having 2 in my collection. There is also a diving extension from the bracelet folding clasp which is definitely useful for actual divers.

The date on the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle is at 6. This is great as it is symmetrical and pleasing to my eyes. The fit and finishing of the case and the bracelet makes it comfortable to wear. With 300m WR, it’s my go to watch when the WR comes in handy. A great tool watch especially when the weather in Singapore is really humid.

I must admit that Oris exceed my expectations and have been doing a great job. I find myself wearing the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle more than I expected.
