Owner Review: Omega Speedmaster CK2915-3

Omega Speedmaster CK2915

There is little written about the Omega Speedmaster CK2915-3 transitional. Being a transitional pre-moon model, it not noticed by some but revered by true Omega fans. You see, the “-3” meaning it was the 3rd version of the CK2915 & it was released sometime between 1958-1959. After 1959, the CK2998 arrived. According to what’s available written, there’s no right or wrong what the CK2915-3 should truly have or should look as during that “transition” period, Omega built a watch that retained the looks of the original CK2915, but included some features & looks of the incoming CK2998. Very very subtle difference, in fact, some say none at all. Perhaps from the double beveled caseback, the alpha hands and the distinctive lollipop second hand & the Naiad crown (that has a small Mercedes logo inside the Omega logo), are the best way to tell it is a transitional model. For me, it was once in a lifetime chance to own a piece of history on my wrist. A Speedmaster from the 50s pre-moon era that later evolved to become the current iconic moonwatch.

The CK2915-3 is unlike the current Speedmaster, it is 39mm & has 19mm lugs. The watch has 1 previous owner that decided to part with it after wearing the watch for 60 years as a pilot. The watch was kept in fairly good condition, but didn’t come with the original 7077 bracelet. Finding this ultra rare 7077 bracelet is like hen’s teeth. But I managed to find a slightly later period NOS 1039 bracelet to compliment the looks. Omega did a fantastic job cleaning up the watch, it will now last another 60 years I hope.

The Omega Speedmaster CK2915-3 has become my daily wear & sits comfortably on my wrist. I just love the vintage looks, that lollipop hand & the fact that I’m wearing “history” – an early Speedmaster on my wrist. Everyone will have an opinion which era or Speedmaster model is their favourite. This one is mine.
