A. Cesnovar did an excellent analysis of his Octon already, so I will try to add and not repeat in this review. I am a microbrand geek who enjoys the designs and value that can be found. However, it can be tiresome scouring the internet to find another NH35 in another dive watch.
The Octon Forest Green is different in a few very good ways. I like the matte dial and the complementary matte bezel on this watch. It is green without screaming green! The face has a minimal amount of writing and no date. This keeps a very clean, but not sterile look to the watch. The bracelet is pretty good, and the weight and dimensions of the watch make it extremely wearable. It fits very nicely under a cuff or a winter jacket, and doesn’t give you wrist fatigue by the end of the day. The domed sapphire crystal allows the watch to be readable from most angles. Yet, it still gives enough of that glorious distortion if turned enough. The brushing is excellent and even on the entirety of the watch. The bezel is responsive, not too stiff and no back play.
The Octon Forest Green also has a milled clasp that is signed, as is the crown. The signature on the crown almost looks like the symbol for Prince. However, one of my gripes would be with the clasp, as the security fold over portion is tight (it has not loosened much in over a year) and is tough to get a fingernail under. Since this is an NH35a, it is set up for a date complication, but as this watch has no date, it has a ghost pull when setting.
One thing that often does not get brought up is customer service. Octon’s is superb – They shipped fast and correctly and they were responsive to my emails with questions. Octon even went so far as to send another (different) bracelet for me when I told them about my issues with the clasp. If you want a high spec, high value, wearable watch from a brand that does customer service right, then I highly recommend this.
