Owner Review: Nomos Metro – small seconds, big style

Nomos Metro

The Nomos Metro was designed by German designer Martin Braun but at the same time is still a very typical Nomos watch, although still a little bit different. I like the clean and clear design of Nomos watches in general, but I also like the way this watch is just that bit more elegant with the thin wire loops instead of standard lugs.

You can get several versions of the Nomos Metro, but I chose the white dial Metro manual wind without date or power reserve. I wanted a dress watch with a dial free from any disturbing elements. Except for the red seconds hand, which adds that little bit of rebellion to an otherwise black and white watch. It doesn’t disrupt the balance of the dial, as I feel that the power reserve does on this particular model. In my view, the Metro is meant to be an understated dress watch.

Even though the Nomos Metro is only 38.5 mm, the bezel is practically non-existent and the watch looks much bigger than you would think. At the same time, it still fits a slim wrist like mine perfectly. The dial is clean and the hands slim and elegant. The display back shows off the nicely finished DUW 4401 Alpha movement. It is not a similar level of finishing that you would find with a Glashütte Original, but as the price is also not the same, the finish is in my humble view very good value for money. Nomos started out with ETA movements, which they modified, and then they started to make their own movements. Quite an achievement for a young brand, producing watches at a very fair price.

It doesn’t matter if you are getting your first mechanical watch or you need a good dress watch: Nomos can provide and Metro is certainly one of my absolute favourites.
