Owner review: Lima Meca Revolt

Lima Meca Revolt

The young independent brand Lima have released their most compelling design yet, the Lima Meca Revolt diver style watch. Boosting a quirky feature of interchangeable bezels.

Inspiration came from the James Bond era defining watches and 1980’s action anime, giving a pared-down diver watch aesthetic.

The basic premise of the Lima Meca Revolt is a stocky stainless-steel case that wears slightly larger than 38mm due to its simple, blocky design with a 45.6mm lug to lug. It doesn’t hug the wrist due to its slab-sided nature but sits relatively low on the wrist at 12mm thick. A solid Miyota movement resides behind the laser etched screw down case back giving 200m of water resistance.

The real treat that comes with the Lima Meca Revolt is that it’s supplied with two bezels that twist lock onto the case. Firstly, lets praise and admire the design and engineering involved in this. From a small brand it’s something to be admired. Each bezel is milled beautifully, along with the case fixing points and at this price point (under $300) it should applauded. Two ball bearings allow the bezels to fix in place underneath two clip forms giving a smooth and effortless experience when you want to change the look of the watch. With this black dial version (a tiffany blue version is also available) one bezel has diver style seconds markers going from 10 through to 60, and the other has simple black dots at hour intervals. Both finished with a lovely coin edge grip.

The bezels don’t rotate (hence marketing the Lima Meca Revolt “diver style”) but who cares it looks ridiculously cool.

I get vintage vibes from this piece due to the simple case design, small dial aperture and supplied tropic style strap (which by the way is excellent quality). That small dial is partly due to allowing the interchangeable bezel system to work and manufacturing constraints/costs I imagine. Thankfully Lima have left the dial sparse with just a brand logo and printed minute track and dotted hour markers. The real genius comes in the fact that they have moved the normal dial text onto the bezel between the twelve and one o’clock position with some very classy laser etching. This creates a distinctive look that works brilliantly and elevates this piece beyond its market position. I can’t think of many any other brands that have tried this let alone executed it so well for this price. The whole premise just works making this piece a real pleasing addition to my collection.

Syringe style lumed hands and a lightning bolt style yellow seconds hand complete this fun, vintage inspired design that fits perfectly into their existing lineup, showing depth and considered choices from a brand that I’m sure will only excel in their creations.

A small mention of the great packaging that comes with the Lima Meca Revolt. Well thought out, explaining the design ethos with a bold cartoon style design and colours, and a simple information card detailing specs, warranty and purchase date.

As this is a small brand selling limited numbers of watches there are a few short comings.

There is no AR coating on the sapphire crystal, but with major brands not even doing this, it’s an easy one to let go. Case finishing is basic and could have been better but again the design, execution and retail price outweigh these slight negatives.

The only real issue I have is with the crown. It follows the brands design language but it’s not easy to unscrew and use. If they could have added some knurling to this or a coin edge finish to it, then I would give full marks.

In conclusion, the Lima Meca Revolt is a fantastic watch which is so different to everything else on the market. The interchangeable bezels are the stars of the show allowing this watch to fit into several scenarios from desk diving to weekend adventures by the pool.

I hope they will expand this bezel feature into future models, as it’s a lovely way to make a watch more personal.
