Owner Review: Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date

To give you a little background before I get to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date, I am currently in my late twenties so in the beginning of my career. I wear a suit for work and my first years out of university was all about saving up for different suits in order to have one for every day of the week. Note that this was not the dress code for employees at my level but I live by the motto ”Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have” and those people had fancy suits and watches. At this point I had picked up a fascination (my fiancée would use another word) for watches and I remember reading up on different brands history and Jaeger-LeCoultre caught my attention. You can read up on this on the internet but let’s just say that finding out what’s going on in Vallée de Joux made me feel like a kid that has found Santa’s workshop, this was absolute magic!

Shortly after landing a new job, that made it possible for me to buy a new watch, I found a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date from 2016, so the watch holds a sentimental value for me as well. Now for those of you who don’t know this the gold rotor looks stunning and I believe 2016 was the year they changed it so it looks like the JLC logo. With 39mm in diameter the watch goes well for someone like me with slim wrists. In my opinion the watch is elegant and classy yet fairly modest. Also JLCs steel watches sure gives you a whole lot of watch for your money and the calibre 899 is as reliable as they come and the quality of the movement is in no way less than the ones of Patek Philippe (after all Patek Philippe used JLC movements back in the days).

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date does not draw attention from everyone but for a trained eye a JLC can be spotted from miles away. Also, talking brand recognition JLC is not like Rolex that pretty much everyone knows of, but after all ”Those who know, know”.

  1. […] time where in the past year I have been lusting after a grail. For me my list was pretty simple, a JLC Master Control, Grand Seiko Elegance, and an IWC Ingenieur 1955 Heritage, all three were in the sub $3-4K range.  […]
