Owner Review: IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41

Sometimes a wise but often dangerous thing a watch enthusiast can do is lay their collection on the table and look at it, by doing that many factors can of course come into play. You may look at it and decide that some pieces need the chop, while in other cases its a matter of studying it and seeing what is missing, it could be a type of watch, a brand or maybe a particular complication. For me however it was different, when I took out every one of my pieces and laid them on the table I realised that what I currently had was a very conservative collection, and for that very reason some had to be done to spice it up a little, and it came in the form of a watch made by a brand that usually pushes out watches far too large for my small wrists. In as a result comes the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in GREEN!

Now for those that know me personally, I’m very skinny, and big watches are usually a big nah nah as the most comfortable ones for me are under the 40mm mark. IWC of course loves making big stuff, their pilot ranges are usually always upwards of 43mm which for me is sadly too large but finally something came along that was wearable. The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 range released in both green and blue last year was a potential solution to scratch the IWC itch I have had. So finally after waiting quite a while and scoring a great deal on one through my trusted A.D it finally arrived, green dial on the brown leather band and all i could say was wow!

Let’s first start with that dial, its amazing! It can play funny games with you, in poor light the dial is black and you’d mistake it for any other pilot’s watch that IWC has released in the past with a black dial but once the light beams down and you look down you truly are in for a treat, the green shimmers so beautifully whether its inside or when the sun hits it right. Everything is super legible on the watch and I love the little red sub-dial hand for the second counter. in certain lights the sub-dials will show up in a different shade to the rest of the dial as well so as long as you are in the right environment you won’t be bored wearing this watch.

The case of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 is like most IWC’s on the thick side. For me comfort wise its fine however I have spoken to others that have tried this watch and that was one of their complaints. You can of course forgive IWC for this as most of their pieces are thick and invoke a presence so if you are after something on the thinner side this may not be the best choice. The quality of the case is fantastic and the brushed stainless steel means you don’t have to worry too much about scratches as well. Flipping the watch around you’ll see the beautiful In-House Calibre 69385 movement if of course you do get bored of the front, I for one still aren’t bored

The leather strap the watch comes with is a little stiff at the start, however since owning the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 for the last few weeks after a bit of leather treatment it has softened up significantly. IWC has incorporated the EasX-CHANGE system into this watch so it can be very easily taken off without the use of tools so if you decide to get the bracelet or rubber straps, it can almost all be changed over on the go ,meaning you can put away your Bergeon tools.

Last but not least let’s talk about the movement, the Calibre 69385 is an in house self winding movement that features a 46 hours reserve. Thankfully this movement is on display for you to peruse over and the addition of Cotes De Geneve perlage is a nice little detail finish off the piece

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41

I am glad now that when I decide to choose what watch to wear today, I have something that sticks out in the crowd. Not only is the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 green a great choice due to that beautiful dial but its also something different compared to the conservatives, so to conclude this review, stop going for the safe options, dare to be different!
