Many members of the “watchfam” and several close colleagues of mine are keen to own a high end automatic or mechanical watch as their grail. Beating all odds I choose a different path and found myself falling in love with a Grand Seiko SBGX265.
At the heart of the Grand Seiko SBGX265 is a 9F62 Quartz movement, it happens to be the thinnest quartz movement in the GS family and comes with a date complication. I feel like I have broken all the “grail” rules but at the same time am very happy with my purchase.
This beautiful piece features the famous zaratsu polish finishing and is perfectly fitting given its 37mm diameter. At first, I thought that the Grand Seiko SBGX265 would fly below the radar and be relatively unnoticeable. Maybe I just hoped it would because I am a shy person (naah!), but believe me it does not.
The sunburst blue dial is ever eye-catching since it constantly changes colour depending on the amount of light you get on your wrist. It’s a simple but very classy watch that is always “ready to go”. I love the way the bracelet also compliments the whole watch and makes it easy to wear in almost any situation. Overall the Grand Seiko SBGX265 really is also a good entry point into a luxury brand that is really going places these days.
If you have a relatively tight budget and can only spare the money just for the one purchase then luxury quartz is a great way to avoid the future cost of maintenance. I fully support that you should buy whatever makes you happy, there is no right or wrong when it comes to watch purchases. After all, I’m just sharing my personal opinion and I highly recommend my first grail, the Grand Seiko SBGX265.
