Owner Review: Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar

Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar

Frederique Constant is a brand that offers serious value. A newer brand that has 15 in-house movements under their umbrella, impressive? Yes. I am no stranger to the brand, back in 2015 my first decent watch was a Frederique Constant. Since then I have added quite a few watches to my collection, then it came towards a time where in the past year I have been lusting after a grail. For me my list was pretty simple, a JLC Master Control, Grand Seiko Elegance, and an IWC Ingenieur 1955 Heritage, all three were in the sub $3-4K range.  Then I stumbled upon a Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar that belonged to a friend of mine, I couldn’t take my hands off it, the dial, case, and the movement were gorgeous, I was truly amazed by it. I didn’t think I would come back to the brand again, but the slimline perpetual never left my mind. It was something I needed to have!

Getting into the watch itself, this is no ordinary Frederique Constant, most of us think of gold plated quartz dress watches and frown upon the brand. A few of their model lines like the slimline and the world timer are brilliant. The Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar is the top of the Christmas tree for the brand. A manufacture grand complication is something that is pretty rare. The watch measures 42mm and combined with the complication it has quite a presence. The case is very elegant and retains a 10 MM thickness. It has a beautiful onion crown that further adds to the elegance of the watch. The dial is clean and no-nonsense, the calendar and moon phase complication is also done very well. The watch is dressy but can certainly go with more casual outfits.  With a steel case, it can be a daily wearer. The Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar is rated to 30M of water resistance which is acceptable for a dress watch. The watch features the in-house FC775 movement with 38 hours of power reserve, the movement is well decorated with perlage, cotes de Geneve, and a skeletonized rotor. The perpetual calendar complication is easy to set and use.

More than anything the Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar offers great value. You are certainly getting a lot for the money, a perpetual calendar that is affordable and done right. Frederique Constant had more of an industrial approach towards the making of the watch, that being said they didn’t compromise on making it elegant and reminiscent of the perpetual calendars from haute horology makers we are familiar with. Overall the watch has exceeded my expectations, it really has a lot to offer. The same excitement, I had six years back when I got my first Frederique constant to the slimline perpetual, My excitement from the Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar is almost the same “kiddish” enjoyment that I got from my first Frederique Constant six years ago. My admiration for the brand continues to reach new heights.
