The watch that I am going to talk about is the Edox Geoscope GMT Limited edition released in 2014: only 300 pieces were made to celebrate Edox 130th anniversary. Every year that passes many brands in the watchmaking field leverage the symbolic and emotional elements connected to their historical heritage to try to convey to us the identity, culture and experiences that have made unique and distinctive their products. This particular watch is a contemporary version of the 1971 Geoscope, the first genuine worldtimer wristwatch! The new massive 46mm stainless steel case is very well refined with a matching steel link bracelet. The dial retains the inner 24-hour GMT scale with its incredible “world map”, viewed from the North Pole, and a circular date display on a medium-sized sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The second time zone is indicated with a thin red GMT-hour hand that features an unusual fork shaped tip. The orange hour markers and distinctive main hands pay homage to those on the original. The screw down pushers and crown guarantee a water resistance of 200 meters.
The Edox Geoscope GMT is powered by an Edox caliber 07 automatic movement with a module for the GMT functions. Today more than ever, the motivations that lead me to choose one watch over another are no longer, exclusively, the purely technical and functional characteristics, since innovation and technological evolution have led to a standardization of products worldwide. I am more stimulated by the creation of the emotional connection that the design and image of a particular watch evoke in myself.
I look at the Edox Geoscope GMT and I am projected directly to those years that I lived as a child. It is like having a small TV on your wrist where you can review the things that we have not forgotten and smile when we remember them. Nostalgia for a past that doesn’t seem so far to me because it’s there, on my left wrist!
