Watch review number two (The first was of the Gold Seiko Turtle). Today we’ve got the Doxa Sub300 Searambler 50th Anniversary; a 300 piece limited production of the legendary OG Sub300 introduced to the world by Doxa in 1968.

If you’re reading this article, you probably know something about Doxa, or have heard about them at the very least. But for those that might not, Doxa was a good old-fashioned watch manufacture in Switzerland that played a very important role in introducing to the world proper tool dive watches; along-side the other legends in the game like Blancpain and Rolex. Like most other watchmakers during the late 20th century Doxa too lost its feet to the Quartz crisis, and largely became unheard of until it was brought back to life during the early 2000’s.

In 1968, Doxa introduced the Sub300 line, its first dive watch and the watch they’re probably best known for to date. The Sub came in a bright orange dial, named the ‘Professional’; followed by the ‘Searambler’ with a silver sunburst dial and finally the ‘Sharkhunter’ that came in a black dial. In 2018 Doxa released a 300-piece limited edition of each iteration of the Sub300; and I’ve got the Searambler numbered 010/300. These re-editions of the SUB300 are supposed to be an exact one to one of the originals, and are probably the best example of a homage or re-edition by a company done right; no beefed up case sizes, no fancy unwanted texts or colours, and no unnecessary omissions.

Lastly, you’re very very unlikely to meet another guy or gal wearing a Doxa on the road, let alone a Doxa Sub300 SeaRambler. You’re bound to be one of the cooler guys if you rock up at a GTG wearing one of these. And hey if you do see someone else wearing a Doxa, you’re definitely making a new watch bud that day!
