Inherited from my late father, this Citizen Eco-Drive World Chronograph A-T is a sight to behold. Since I’m a high school student on a tight-arse budget, I’m very thankful that this could literally be my one and only watch until the day that I died. However, one side-effect of owning it is falling in love with watches. And thank God that I did.
Bought on a cruise in 2014 as a result of a spur-of-the-moment midlife crisis-esque urge to become a pilot, this watch is absolutely packed with features. It is radio controlled (everywhere but Australia, unfortunately), has a 1/20 second chronograph, perpetual calendar, 6 months of power reserve with indicator, 26 time zones, 200m water resistance, and a 24-hour time display. And because it’s a Blue Angels edition, it has my favourite feature: a pilot’s slide rule. What the fuck?
I love the way this watch looks. The dial is so busy and utilitarian. I find myself lost in the blues, playing around with the slide rule and doing useless arbitrary maths. I even learned how to use a slide rule. For some reason though, Citizen decided to make it a 23mm lug width, so finding replacement straps is a bitch; at the moment I’ve got it on a 22mm jubilee strap given to me by a friend, but the original 23mm blue leather strap is brilliant. It comes with a yellow inner which matches both the yellow ring around the bezel and also the Blue Angels colour scheme of blue and yellow. The dial is a very muted blue which goes well with most outfits, especially yellow.
I love this watch. I love that I get to keep my father on my wrist with me at all times of the day. I love that it will run forever. I love that I can take it overseas it will feel right at home. I just love it.
