I was looking for an all black DLC ‘sports’ watch for some time. They either all seemed too overdone and trying too hard like they were meant for some post apocalyptic future, or looked like they belonged on the wrist of the teenager making his first foray into the all black smart watches we see on everyone’s wrist these days ( not that there is anything wrong with that).
Bremont wasn’t a company that was on my radar to be honest. I often passed them by as viewed them as some sort of ‘jumped up’ department store watch, but charging luxury Swiss prices. All that changed when I casually asked one of my local ADs to order in the ALT1-P2 jet just to view. The photos looked stunning but I was pretty much expecting it to be a big let down in reality. How I was mistaken! This watch just oozed class the minute I saw it.
The dark stealth look is continued to the rear sapphire crystal case back to give the movement a sort of ‘broody’ dark look, in perfect keeping with the rest of the watch. A splash of red just gives the dial the right amount of ‘pop’ without being too overbearing. The only negative I would say is the leather strap it comes on is very thick and stiff and it takes a few days for it to mould to your wrist. Even then it is somewhat uncomfortable and I am looking to change it to a rubber strap.
The only other negative is the watch is rather heavy, so it definitely makes its presence felt. At 43mm and 16mm thick, it is a big watch that wears well, but make no mistake, this is not a watch for the dress circle at the opera. This is a casual weekend watch and perhaps even a sports watch.
The movement is a base Valjoux heavily modified by the Bremont team. The chronograph works flawlessly as would be expected of a watch of this calibre.
This might just be the all black chrono you have always been secretly looking for!
