As you can gather from the title, this watch is nuts! Pistachios to be exact. The Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40, nicknamed the “Pistachio” is arguably the best model Breitling has released in modern times. Now sure, it looks like a Patek, and that’s fair, but in reality, it has enough differences to stand out on its own. This watch is more than just a shell of a Patek.
Okay, that was bad. Moving on…
The Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40 measures in at a surprising 40mm. Surprising because Breitling’s complicated watches tend to be on the larger side. At under 13mm, it’s also nice and slim. The exhibition case back provides a glare-free view of the in-house B09 movement. This movement is basically the B01 chronograph movement (again, in-house), but without the winding rotor obscuring the view. Although mainly machine finished, it still provides a superior chronograph movement that only Omega can match in the price range. This movement has both a vertical clutch system and a column wheel. These two key things ensure you will need fewer services and they help with accuracy (this watch is COSC certified!). It also has 70 hours of power reserve to go along with 100 meters of water resistance.
The main attraction of the Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40 is the dial of course. The subtle pistachio green is a treat on your wrist (Insert another Pistachio pun here). The dial also has a pebbled/grained texture that you only see when viewing under magnification. The bicompax subdials have concentric circular finishing, to contrast with the dial. The new applied Breitling logo is a sight for sore eyes. The old wings are nostalgic sure but they remind me of an era where Breitlings were 48mm and were being sold at malls for wholesale prices. The new (yet old) “B” logo is the mark of a new era, and the Premier B09 is the flagship.
At $8,600 you would be hard pressed to find a watch with a wearable size, such a playful unique dial, and an incredible in-house movement. It would take a real nut case to bash the Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40! Okay, that was the last one, I swear.
